Crabbing at Half Moon Bay

This is me with my first
Hoop Net.  My first outing resulted in some fine rock crabs!

This is my goddaughter, Natasha.  She is holding a live medium size Dungeness Crab that we are about to have for dinner.

My Brother, Chef Gordon

My brother is a great chef and can do wonderful things with crab.  See his recipe for Crab Bisque!

Take a look at my recommendations for wine with crab.

I'm waiting for his crab cakes recipe.  I am hoping for some Maryland Crab cakes recipes!

Narsai David and me

Picture
Narsai David, in the top hat, is a well-known chef in the Bay Area and formally the KCBS food and wine editor.  He is my third favorite chef after Julia Child and my brother Gordon.

When I used to commute from Silicon Valley to Discovery Bay, I would listen to Narsai on the radio and learn a lot about cooking and wine.  I remember learning that asparagus will retain its bright green look if you cook it uncovered.  Therefore, don't use your crab steamer to cook this fine vegetable!

Check out the great Crab Recipes including Maryland Crab Cakes Recipes, Crab Cooking Equipment, and instructions on cleaning and trapping crabs.

crabsman.com is a site about eating, cooking and trapping crabs! We recently went back to our roots with crabsman and incorporated trappingcrabs.com into our "new" old site.  Crabs make up 20% of all marine crustaceans caught, farmed, and consumed worldwide and are fun to trap and make great meals.  Crabbing is also very relaxing.

We now again include great crab recipes, crab cooking equipment like a good crab steamer, wine with crab, some crab biology, tips on cleaning crab, and methods to catch crabs with crab traps and crab snares. Crabbing can be a lot of fun and there is nothing as good as fresh crab for dinner. My favorite is Dungeness Crab, but most Americans like Blue Crab better.  My sister-in-law, Debby likes Alaskan king crab the best.  Trapping crab and snaring crab is inexpensive and a great family activity.  Increase your trapping fun by using our Crab Attractant.

Trapping crabs either by crab traps or crab snares is relaxing as well as fun.  It sure beats attending those non-productive staff meetings at work!  Check out the 6 tips for making your outing successful.

Crab cooking equipment is essentially pots to boil crab or a crab steamer.  The ones I recommend are either high quality stainless steel or porcelain-enamel coated steamers.  A crab steamer will last a life time and require much less cleaning than aluminum cook ware.  Of course any old frying pan will do for making crab cakes.

My 6 favorite crab recipes are something you'll have to try.  I am also, over time, adding additional recipes when I remember great ones!  I will also add to the wine with crab page as I taste new wines.  There are many crab recipes on the net, but I think you will truly like these! You can use either Dungeness Crab, Blue Crab or Rock Crab for these recipes.

Cleaning crab can be fun and we feature some videos that demonstrate some techniques that will help you clean crab.
Cleaning crab is also quite easy!

Also check out Crab Jargon for some funny Crab Terms.  If you think these terms are funny; how about  Crab Attractant (Crab Bait) (See this page for some of the fine shops selling our product) (We are now selling on Amazon for those crabbers who can not visit one of our stores.  Just enter "Crab Attractant").  A new set of pages, Crab Facts feature crab species, sustainability, economics, and essays on various species including the Blue Crab, Dungeness Crab, King Crab, Mud Crab, King Crab and others.

See a Newspaper article of my Crab Attractant.

The Birthplace of crabsman.com

Picture

This place has lots of crab gear and the folks are very friendly, and this was the beginning of crabsman.com . I purchased my first crab loop trap here and they were very helpful in giving me instructions in its use and where to go to find crabs.  Later I  purchased my first crab snares here.
